Tips to help ya be a better Gardener!

‘Cause it can be tough! Especially for those who are new to the game. But it is pretty awesome to be able to just walk out to your backyard and grab some delicious produce or flowers. So here are some tips to help your garden flourish:

1. Placement is key!  Starting a garden is just like real estate it’s all about location. Place your garden in a part of your yard where you’ll see it regularly. That way, you’ll be much more likely to spend time in it. And keep in mind, some plants are shade plants, others need sun, and yet even more plants are partial shade or sun! Don’t overlook that part of your plant’s description!

2. The Perfect Plants for Beginners.  Some plants are just known to be easier to grow than others – For easy-to-grow produce, experts recommend tomatoes, peppers, onions, chard, basil, and bush beans. Easy to grow and maintain flowers include clematis(a vine), sunflowers, dahlia’s, roses, petunia & black eyed susan’s. Just ask your local plant nursery employee to direct you to the “hardy” plants.

3. Water!!  Seems pretty simple right? Well then why do we forget to do it!!!?? Haha… Make sure you give plants plenty of water (don’t go overboard!), and try to avoid getting the plant’s leaves wet. Wet leaves can easily lead to mold, rot, and a sick plant! 😉 AND… avoid watering during the hottest part of the day!

4. Plants really do respond to sound.  Talking to plants to help them grow is a well-known old wives’ tale, but vibration (like music, or perhaps even the sound of your voice) can affect plant growth.

5. Tip for the tomato growers! A little baking soda can help you grow sweeter tomatoes. A regular sprinkling of this kitchen staple into your plant’s soil can help reduce acidity, which sweetens up your crop.
